Interface Design
"Skin-able" programs make for good exercises in interface design.

In late 2000, Netscape held a contest to encourage designers and developers to create custom interfaces ("skins") for the launch of Netscape Navigator 6. Our submission earned first place. The skinning engine has since been updated.

Similarly, Microsoft and Adobe sponsored a "skinning" contest for Windows Media Player 7. We received a honorable mention. That skin can be downloaded here (175K).
